Fun Things To Do In Islington And Holloway

There is something fun for everyone in Islington and Holloway, from sophisticated epicurean delights to raucous sporting events and or a relaxing time by the canal.

We’ve covered some of our favourites below.

Must and Lees

Nothing says congrats, sorry or thanks like a well chosen wine.

Must and Lees describes itself as a neighbourhood wine merchant, but when it comes to sourcing their wines, their neighbourhood is the whole world.

If you are already a wine-lover then you will enjoy sampling their wares at every price point. If you are new to the world of wine and looking to expand your horizons, then their wine tasting events might be perfect for you.

There is no need to feel intimidated here, as their events often pair fast food and wine, such as their “Burgers and Burgundy” tasting series.

If you work in the area, this would make a novel, entertaining, and educational (and of course, tasty) night out with your colleagues.

How to get there

You can take the 43 bus from Stop SY on Holloway Road, but getting there on foot only takes a few more minutes.

If you are walking, turn right onto Hornsey Street out of Electric Works N7. Turn right at Holloway Road. Cross over Eden Grove and Georges Road, and take another right on to Liverpool Road, at the Shu La La Chinese restaurant.

Continue along Liverpool Road as it turns left. You will pass St Mary Magdalene Garden on your left as you continue on Liverpool Road. Must and Lees is about half a mile further down the road, on your right.

Emirates Stadium

Hornsey Rd, London N7 7AJ

As the home of one of the country’s finest football clubs, and the London club with the most trophies, the Emirates Stadium deserves to be something special. Emirates Stadium opened in 2006 after construction that took just over two years and £390 million.

If you’re in the area, you can visit The Armoury shop and Arsenal museum every day. The Armoury closes at 6pm (4pm on Sunday), and last entry time for the museum is 6.15, but you should get there earlier to see all it has to offer.

If you are already a die-hard fan of the club or football history, then the stadium tours offer a behind-the-scenes look at Arsenal, and tour tickets include museum entry. A visit to the Emirates Stadium is a great experience if you love the game, and a must-see if you’re a Gooner.

How to get there

Getting to Emirates Stadium from Electric Works N7 could not be easier. Simply exit Electric Works N7 on to Hornsey Street and turn right. Cross Holloway Road and continue along Hornsey Road opposite.

You will see the stadium at the end of the road within a couple of minutes.

A tranquil canal scene with moored narrowboats. The canal is lined with lush greenery, including large trees and a weeping willow, with a row of traditional brick houses in the background.

When you think of London’s transport network today you probably think of cars, buses, trains, cabs, and of course, the Underground. Do you ever think about London’s canal network?

The London Canal Museum is where you can learn about the history of London’s canals, and see what life was like on the narrowboats and waterways of the city. You can visit the museum but also take a boat trip from the museum to Little Venice or Victoria Park on one of six itineraries.

The museum and boat trips are a unique window in the past (and present) of London.

How to get there

The Piccadilly Line is your best option to get to the London Canal Museum from Electric Works N7. Holloway Road Station is only a two-minute walk from Electric Works N7. From here you can take the first train south as you will only be going one stop to Kings Cross.Any train heading to Uxbridge or Heathrow will do.

The Museum is only a few minute’s walk from Kings Cross St Pancras. Take the Euston Road exit, and turn left onto York Way. Head north along the side of the station and turn right on to the A5203 next to hub by Premier Inn.

Less than 100 metres ahead on your left is New Wharf Road where you can find the entrance to the London Canal Museum.
